CollisionCare App for the iPhone ~~Tip of the Week 03122012 ~~

Well it looks like spring is here in the northeast, finally!! Time to start thinking about getting those snow tires off and your summer tires on. A couple of things to remember, if they are the same tires you used last fall, make sure the tires are mounted on the same side as last year. Radial tires are not made the same as bias-belted tires. Dont assume that the tires wont require rebalancing! Why? Because the weights used to balance the tires may have been removed or fallen off. Oh your gas mileage will get better as soon as your summer tires are on! One more thing, keep a snow brush in your car until the end of april, make sure your windows and roof of the car is clear of snow from one of the snowstorms that usually hit us once or twice in the early spring!!

CollisionCare App for the iPhone ~~Tip of the Week 03052012~~

This weeks Tip Of The Week is a gentle reminder how dangerous not clearing the snow from your car before you hit the highways. With the latest couple of snow falls here in the northeast, it has been bloody dangerous on the roads. Let me be perfectly clear, the drivers who don’t clear their snow are typical middle-age mini-van drivers, who only care about themselves on the road. Saw many cars verve into other lanes due to the selfish drivers who didn’t clear their snow. So be nice, clear your snow and ice!! Having pictures of your car in CollisionCare prior to any incident will help you if you have to make a claim because of someone else’s laziness. Please drive safely!!

CollisionCare App for the iPhone ~~Tip of the Week 02272012~~

Yes, spring is arriving sooner than later, we hope! A major contributor to fender-benders & minor accidents are the giant shallow pools of water forming on top of hard packed ice. We all agree that it is so tempting to splash through these giant puddles.
These puddles cover over many dangers to your car and your ability to control your vehicle. The major issues that lie hidden are pot-holes and broken ice pack, typically with sharp edged ice. If your vehicle comes into high speed contact with one of the hidden dangers, you will loose control and possibly damage your vehicle.
So drive slow when going through these water puddles or better yet, avoid them, will save you money in the long run.

CollisionCare App ~~Tip of the Week 021312~~

One of the most annoying and dangerous habits in the winter is the practice of some drivers to speed up to an interchange or parking lot exit. It seems that these drivers are depending on their brakes to magically adhere to the ice and snow that is usually there. News Flash!! You won’t stop in time if you are braking on ice!!!

The big issues are driving to the conditions to the road and the lack of visibility to see on coming traffic. Manage these issues by driving in control and make sure that there is a clear lane available when joining traffic.

CollisionCare App ~~ Tip of the Week~020612~~

Previous CollisionCare App Tips discussed what you can see and manage to avoid the situation. This tip discusses what you can’t see or fully evaluate as a threat to your safety. In winter driving conditions a dangerous situation exists and most drivers cannot understand it’s danger.

As an example, we are discussing a 4 lane boulevard after a recent snow storm. The first step in snow removal is to plow the fallen snow to the side of the road. When snow is piled on the side of the street, depending on the amount of fallen snow, the piles of snow can take about 3 to 5 feet of horizontal space in that inside lane. Whether or not that lane is used for parking spaces or for additional traffic capacity, it is critical that drivers using the “clear of snow ” lane know that the inside lane is 30% smaller than before.

Which means that traffic or parked cars are up to 5 feet closer to you than when that inside lane is completely clear. This means you need to expect parked car doors’ suddenly opening into your lane and know that traffic in that lane is much closer to you than usual. If you need to avoid cars in that “snow pile” lane, anticipate an avoidance move that will compensate for that vehicle being 5 feet closer to you than expected.

In summary that snow piled in the inside lane is not seen by you but one must understand the threat the unseen snow pile brings to your driving safety.

The CollisionCare iPhone App ~ Tip of the Week ~ 012312

This week’s tip of the week is to help you be a more aware driver thereby avoiding that fender- bender.

First, when driving to the shopping mall be extremely cautious as the parking lot may appear cleared but may have large amounts of black ice. Why would there be black ice? Most shopping malls do not remove the snow they clear the snow to the sides of the parking lot. As the snow piles melt with the daytime sunshine, the water flows to the drainage system and freezes over night creating black ice.

Secondly, you need to keep a pair of sunglasses in your car, the sunshine is very brilliant and will make it nearly impossible to see. You need to be able to see if you want to avoid a fender-bender.

Just remember. when driving in the parking lot of your favourite mall there are lots of opportunities to be involved in a fender-bender.

Responsible drivers can delay the fender-bender but be cautious of the irresponsible drivers believe that a fender-bender can’t happen to them.

The CollisionCare iPhone App ~ Tip of the Week ~ 011612

This week’s tip of the week is to help you be a responsible driver, to spot irresponsible drivers and thereby avoiding that fender- bender.

First, keep your car topped up with windshield washer fluid, the driver being able to see what is ahead, is critical to accident avoidance. Clean the snow and frost off your car, if you don’t clean the snow off it ends up on your windows and you can’t see ahead or worse yet onto the windshield of the driver behind you, which means he can’t see you!!!!

Secondly, keep some extra space between your car and the car ahead of you at a stop sign or stoplight. Keeping that extra space is important so that you have some extra room to possibly avoiding that car approaching you from the rear. Of course you can’t see that car coming at you if your rear - window has snow or frost on it.

Just remember. when driving in the winter you should understand that ice. black ice, is possible anywhere there is snow on, or near, the roadway. Drive as if your car will start sliding the instant you touch your brakes.

Responsible drivers can delay the fender-bender but be cautious of the irresponsible drivers believe that a fender-bender can’t happen to them.
